Right Age to start Training - External trainer !
From the day 1 we had started training the basics at home
Potty training, Sit, Stay, Wait, Come
My puppy status
Age : 3 months on this 6th August 2010
Was planning to keep him occupied within the garden and parking area till he grow upto 6 months.
Not yet taken him out on roads for walk more because of the immunity etc related issues with rotty's.
My question is what is the right age to start External trainer ?
as I had read that upto 6 months the joints are still growing and not to be make him ran a lot or do exercise
I was planning to start his training by a external trainer after 6 months !
What type of training to be given by a external trainer, other than the above basic commands?
please advise.

i usually start my puppies
i usually start my puppies training since they are in the whelping box. i start by getting them used to different floorings in my house, potty, noises, sit, down, recall, stay.
once they have had 2-3 sets of vaccines, i enroll puppies in a puppy kindergaten class. many dog clubs/training facilities offer them. usually by then, my pups are 10-12 weeks old.
there we learn same obedience commands of sit, down, recall, ect but in a different place. we then make a point of picking at least 3 places to train at a week.
i go friend's houses(where i know their dogs are healthy and vaccinated), work, and puppy class. i usually enroll in 2 different clubs' classes. keep training short and fun. train positive.
the younger you get puppy used to environment and obey in different places, the better a companion your puppy will be.
puppies are like sponges, they can learn many things. commands can go from basic obedience to tricks and advanced obedience work such as retrieving, scent discrimination.
as to exercise and puppy development-
keep your puppy in a trim weight. better to grow slower and thinner than overweight and fast and put unnecessary strain on their joints. i let them be puppies. i do no formal exercise or running until after 12-18 months of age. the first year i use to socialize, obedience train and do ground work for future agility and flyball racing.
walking and swimming is great in moderation.
jumping and pulling i start closer to 15 months of age.
growth plates are still developing up to about 15-18 months of age-so we avoid heavier stuff until after 1 1/2 years as well as x-ray around that time to make sure hips, elbows are ok for more work.
as to "external" trainer, i guess you mean a private trainer outside of your home?
i always rather train myself in a group class with a good accomplished and positive instructor. if having a serious issue or need help, then a private instructor-with me- can be used. but i would not send my dog to someone without me.
hope this helped!

one more note. training never
one more note. training never ends. my current dogs are 5 years old and we are still going to classes 2-3 times a week and train in different venues and still having fun!
what you put into your dog, is what you will get.
good luck!
